You must have thought of ways to incorporate your family portraits in fun and creative ways around your house. If you are into DIY projects, family portraits are the best opportunity to grease those skills and put them in action. These can be especially fun if you have young ones around.

Here are some cute DIY ideas you can look into.

1.     Photo Collage Alphabets

If there are several photographs that you want to use together, a great idea is combining them together in a collage to make one large alphabet. This letter can be the initial of your family name or anything else you have an affinity with. The alphabet can be cut out of cardboard, or wood, if you are feeling especially ambitious; the photos can be cut up and placed within the letter to make an exciting ornamental item.

The letter can be decorated with lights and glitter and stickers- do anything you want!

2.     Photo Invitation Cards

Isn’t it so sweet when people send their family portraits as Christmas or Thanksgiving cards? You can do that too! Instead of spending money getting the cards made, the process can be as easy as getting round-shaped cutters and several cheap prints.

You can hand letter them as an alternative to digitally printing the message- handwritten is considered vintage and special.

3.     Photo Rubik’s Cube

If you are feeling creative, you can cut and paste your family portraits on all sides of a Rubik’s cube. If your children are young, this can serve as an actual puzzle for them to solve. If not, this will make for an amazing and innovative mantelpiece display.

You can even color-edit the different pictures on each side to make the puzzle easier to solve, or the display more appealing.

4.     Photo Cushion or Quilt

Cushions or quilts decorated with family portraits can be given as gifts to loved ones, or they can be displayed around the house so you are constantly reminded of the love you all share.

Printable fabric, some sewing utensils, and a little bit of skill- these are all the things required to make a great personalized cushion or quilt. If it sounds interesting, there are several How-To articles to be found on the web to help you in your endeavors.

5.     Wall Hangings

If you want your family portraits close to your line of vision, it is a great idea to create a pretty wall hanging using different pictures. Display the hanging in your bedroom, in your study above your desk, or wherever you wish! Just make sure to add lots of color, wooden clips, and a fairy light or two for full effect.

6.     Glowing Photo Luminaries

Who says photos have to be displayed in boring ways? If you want, you can make your pictures light up like Christmas.

To make a luminous photo display, you have to first get your photograph printed on a material called vellum. Next, get some glass jars and vases; anything round and clear will do. All you have to do then is cut your pictures apropos to the glass jar and glue them facing outward. You’re done!

These luminaries look great in daylight, but if you want to make them light up at night, you need a couple of tiny candles placed inside the jar. Your photos will come alive with a magical glow.

7.     Bottle Frames

A very easy and fun way to preserve and display family portraits is to put them in jars and bottles with other memorable items that relate to the memory in particular.

If it is a beach family portrait, for example, some sand from the seaside and some seashells would be a lovely addition to the glass jar. You can use jars of different shapes and sizes to make your display as appealing as possible.

8.     Transfer Pictures on Tiles

This may come as a surprise, but nail polish remover actually works pretty well as a transfer agent. There are many techniques on the web telling you exactly how, but you can use the substance to transfer photographs onto tiles.

If you can manage to make it work, these tiles can be hung on the walls or displayed on shelves in place of photo frames. These photo tiles promise a rustic and antique look!

9.     Fridge Magnets

Another sweet and practical idea is to display your family portraits as fridge magnets. Get your photos printed on hard paper and buy several small magnets from your local supermarket. After this, all that is left to do is glue the magnets on the back of pictures and decorate them on your fridge in any pattern you like.

We believe that these interesting DIY crafts will be a fun activity for you and children to partake in. They will not only serve as excellent activities for quality time with the family, but they can also inculcate in your kids a great interest in arts and crafts that may even blossom into a career later on.
